On Fridays around these parts we stop, drop, and write.
For fun, for love of the sound of words, for play, for delight, for joy and celebration at the art of communication.
For only five short, bold, beautiful minutes. Unscripted and unedited. We just writewithout worrying if it’s just right or not.
Won’t you join us?
Here are the rules:
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. Most importantly: leave a comment for the person who linked up before you – encouraging them in their writing!
OK, are you ready? Give me your best five minutes on:
Today’s prompt is: Â Unexpected
Ready? GO!
I was going to write about God and His grace and how it so often catches me off guard. Â It does, you know….catch me off guard so often…you, too?
But then I realized that what is unexpected today is something so much more, well….mundane (?)….common…everyday-lifeish.
Today, I’m in the mood to clean house….(those of you who know me personally, know how…ahem…unexpected this is!) Not only that, but I have a fairly open free day to do so!
A day to clean showers and do laundry and mop floors without trying to figure out how to get the kids involved, how to explain to the husband that “doing dishes” in Cari’s world actually means “Clean up the kitchen.” Â A day to blast worship music, sing at the top of my lungs and dance with the broom (yep, I said dance…and I didn’t keep a pivot foot either!- I’m such a heathen!)
I think the most unexpected part for me was the joy that I am experiencing today. Â Just hanging out- me, Jesus and the vacuum cleaner. It’s a beautiful thing! Maybe this post really is about God’s grace catching me off guard (again) afterall!
STOP!
Wow, I’m hoping that unexpected excitement over cleaning hits me again! I love the quote me, Jesus and the vacuum cleaner! I find my best times with him are when I am vacuuming. I clean our church and have tons of vacuum time and I find myself praying for so much during that time.
I know, right? I totally forget how much I enjoy Jesus time when I’m vacuuming (or ironing)…I kind of hope this feeling sticks around- my house looks great!
Yes, yes, yes, making a HOME for yourself and your loved ones can be a spiritual experience! Sadly, this does not mean I personally engage in the cleaning part of it as often as I might, but still … love the JOY!
I am so right there with you…I find it to be a chore (pun fully intended) on most days…you know, something I oughta do? But today, man, today was a good day!
LOL!! Thats awesome! God snuck into your day in a perfect way! Sometimes we just aernt listening…I find the humming of the vacuum cleaner to be a peaceful time where I can pray! And it seems to drown my kids out!! Blessings
haha…drowning the kids out….so true! (by the way, I love the badge on your site that says ‘I’m thankful for piles of laundry. It means blessings are nearby.’-)
Happy Cleaning, my friend!
I love those days! I love when the cleaning just comes to you instead of you dreading every minute of it as you go to it. God bless!
Hey, you used to write great, but the last few posts have been kinda boring¡K I miss your tremendous writings. Past few posts are just a little bit out of track! come on!
Sorry if you feel the content has slipped a bit….life’s been terribly busy, and frankly, it’s all I can do to post at all. Thanks for the feedback though…hope to get back to serious writing shortly.
Thanks a heap for this post, glad to see there are still some excellent writers around the web!
